Summer Grilling Guide: 4 Food & Wine Pairing Ideas

It’s time to dust off your Grill. Barbeque Season is here!

Our wines are designed to be enjoyed with food and friends. What better time to savor your favorite wines than at your next summer Barbeque. If you’re looking for a few fresh dishes to spice up your summer cookout, here’s a list of our top crowd-pleasing pairings.

Rosé of Syrah and Seasonal Grilled Vegetable Skewers.

Our 2021 Estate Rosé of Syrah is the ultimate summertime sipper so we had to include it in our list. It’s bright and refreshing for any summer event. It goes well on its own or with fresh, bright dishes like seasonal grilled vegetables. We’re thinking summer squash, bell peppers, red onions and whatever colorful veggies you have growing in the garden. We love this Easy Grilled Veggie Skewers recipe from the ForkedSpoon.

Petite Sirah and Ribeye Steak

For heartier BBQ fare, we look toward grilled ribeye steaks paired with the 2020 Estate Petite Sirah. The high tannins present in this wine cut through the steak’s juiciness, making it one of our go-to pairings for the summer! Looking for tips on how to grill the perfect steak? Click here.

Cabernet Sauvignon and a Portobello Mushroom Burger

If you are looking for red meat alternatives,  Portobello Mushroom Burger hits the spot! A  juicy mushroom like Portobello pairs well with full bodied reds and brings out the earthy notes of the wine. The intense flavors of a Mushroom Burger in a rich marinade is a match for a bold Cabernet like the 2020 Estate Four Rows Select Cabernet Sauvignon.

Syrah and Grilled Italian Sausage

Syrah is a food friendly wine that goes with most grilled meats. We are loving our 2019 Estate Ballfield Syrah paired with an Italian Sausage recipe – the high fat is a match to the rich texture of the wine while the spice of the sausage brings out the bright fruit. Check out this Grilled Italian Sausage with Peppers and Onions.

Now that your grill is out and you’ve got your pairings, you are ready for summer!  Don’t forget to stock your cellar for the warmer weather with our Memorial Weekend Sale from May 25th – May 29th.

  1. […] This varietal pairs wonderfully with bold foods, thanks to its round, full-bodied presence, making it a versatile match for many dishes. Dark meats and spices enhance its fruit notes, while grilled lamb chops or peppery barbecue make excellent choices. Soft cheeses like Camembert and blue cheese, along with distinct spices such as clove and anise, accentuate Syrah’s beautifully subtle nuances.
