What should I wear wine tasting in Sonoma?
Sonoma wine country is generally relaxed, and most wineries do not have a strict dress code. We recommend wearing something you feel comfortable in and dressing in layers, as temperatures can change throughout the day. Mornings can be cool or foggy, while afternoons are often warm and sunny.
Consider the type of wine tasting experience you have planned as well. If your visit includes a vineyard or production tour, we recommend comfortable, closed-toe shoes suitable for walking on uneven surfaces.
Most importantly, dress comfortably and bring an extra layer for cooler mornings and evenings so you can enjoy your day in Sonoma wine country.
Are Ty Caton wines estate grown?
Ty Caton Vineyards has 40 acres of estate vineyards in the Moon Mountain District AVA of Sonoma Valley. We grow our own grapes and produce a wide range of wines from these vineyards, giving guests a true vineyard-to-glass experience.
Our estate vineyards are planted to several varieties, with a particular focus on Cabernet Sauvignon. The varying elevations, soils, and exposures across the property allow us to produce distinctive wines that showcase the character of our Moon Mountain estate.

What makes Ty Caton Vineyards different from other Sonoma wineries?
We are a small, family-owned Sonoma Valley winery with a hands-on approach from vineyard to bottle. We farm 40 acres of hillside vineyards in the Moon Mountain District AVA, where rocky volcanic soils, varying elevations, and unique vineyard exposures help shape the character of our estate-grown wines.
Cabernet Sauvignon is at the heart of what we do. Our estate is divided into individual vineyard blocks, each with its own combination of soil, elevation, sun exposure, and grape clones. This allows us to craft a collection of small-production Cabernet Sauvignons that showcase the distinct characteristics found within a single estate vineyard. We believe great wine starts in the vineyard, so we focus on thoughtful farming and letting the character of the land shine through in every bottle.
We believe great wine doesn’t need to be intimidating. We care deeply about what’s in the bottle, but wine should also be fun. We value quality, authenticity, and personal connections, and strive to create an experience that is relaxed, welcoming, and genuine.
What is the Moon Mountain District AVA?
The Moon Mountain District AVA is a wine-growing region located along the western slopes of the Mayacamas Mountains in Sonoma Valley. Known for its hillside vineyards, elevations, rocky volcanic soils, and warm days, the region provides distinctive growing conditions for Cabernet Sauvignon and other red varieties.
Ty Caton Vineyards is located within the Moon Mountain District, where we farm 40 acres of hillside estate vineyards. Differences in elevation, soil, sun exposure, and vineyard blocks allow us to produce wines with distinct characteristics—even when the grapes are grown within the same estate. It’s an important part of what gives our wines their sense of place and character.
