BBQ season is here!
In our opinion, an essential aspect of any successful BBQ is the people, so we prefer to have a variety of wines and food out on the table for everyone to enjoy potluck-style. But, if you’re looking for food and wine pairings for your next summer gathering, here’s a list of our favorites that are sure to please!
Rosé and Watermelon Feta Salad Skewers
We can’t put together a list of BBQ food and wine pairings for the summer without including our favorite summertime sipper—the 2020 Estate Rosé of Syrah! Rosé pairs beautifully with a wide range of BBQ fare, and on hot days, we like to pair this wine with something light – enter, watermelon feta salad on a skewer. The strawberry notes of our Rosé of Syrah complement the fresh watermelon and lift the feta cheese flavors on the palate, and the skewers make them easy to eat. Feel free to add cucumber for a refreshing crunch.
Merlot and a Classic Burger
Marissa’s go-to wine for every occasion (remember Thanksgiving?), the 2018 Estate Upper Bench Merlot, is an easy-going wine that pairs with just about everything. Keep it simple for your BBQ—pair this wine with a classic burger. Add some swiss cheese and sauteed mushrooms if you’re feeling glamorous. It’s a low effort, high reward pairing.
Petite Sirah and Ribeye Steak
For heartier BBQ fare, we look toward grilled ribeye steaks paired with the 2020 Estate Petite Sirah. The high tannins present in this wine cut through the steak’s juiciness, making it one of Jennifer’s favorite pairings for the summer! Looking for tips on how to grill the perfect steak? Click here.
Syrah and Grilled Pizza
The 2018 Estate Ballfield Syrah pairs with anything BBQ (you can take Ty’s word for it), but this summer, we can’t seem to get enough of it paired with grilled pizza. This lighter pairing is ideal for an outdoor lunch on your patio or when you want a lighter dinner, and the best part is that everyone can get all the fixin’s they want on their pizzas! For a fuller-bodied wine like our Syrah, we recommend veggies, Italian sausage, and pepperoni as your toppings.
Now that your grill is out and you’ve got your pairings, share with us how you enjoy Ty Caton wines on Instagram and Facebook. Don’t forget to stock your cellar for the warmer weather with our Memorial Weekend Sale from May 24th–May 31st.
